Apple released the iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1 update for the iPhone. This update is significant as it introduces features driven by Apple Intelligence, the company's suite of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, to the iPhone. Users of compatible iPhone models will now have access to functionalities such as writing tools, an object removal Clean Up tool, and web page summarization. In addition to the iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1, Apple has also issued updates for its other devices, including the iPad and Mac.
iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1 update, as stated by Apple, incorporates new functionalities driven by Apple Intelligence. This update presents writing tools that utilize artificial intelligence, offering features such as proofreading capabilities that include spelling and grammar checks. Additionally, users have the option to request text rewrites in three distinct tonalities. The update is succinct, approachable, and maintains a professional tone. Additionally, it facilitates text summarization, enables the generation of lists and tables, and allows for the highlighting of essential points within the content.
The Clean Up tool utilizes Apple's AI model to eliminate unwanted elements, backgrounds, or text from images. Although the enhanced version of Siri, which Apple showcased at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 in June, is not yet available, the update features a new user interface (UI) that causes the edges of the screen to illuminate while interacting with the voice assistant. In Safari, iPhone users running iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1 can now utilize web page summarization when the reader view is activated. Alongside Apple Intelligence, the iPhone now features call recording capabilities, which can be activated by tapping a new icon situated in the upper-left corner of the display. An audible notification alerts all participants when the recording commences. The recorded call, along with its transcription, is saved in the Notes application.
