 Google API’s New Feature Allows Developers to Force App Downloads Through Play Store

Google’s new Play Integrity API allows developers to trigger app downloads only through the Play Store, effectively blocking sideloading. Here is a summary of the main features.

License Verification: The API checks whether an app is downloaded from the Play Store (has a license) or from a third party. (without a license) or not.
Block sideloaded app: If there is no license App can also be blocked from running.
Redirect to Play Store: Developers can prompt users to reinstall apps from the Play Store with a mandatory dialogue box. It automatically removes sideloaded versions.

Android Play Integrity API

The Play Integrity API can check if an app is installed or sideloaded from the official Play Store. If the app is sideloaded Developers can block apps from running until they are reinstalled through the Play Store. Users will be prompted to download the app through the Play Store, along with a mandatory dialogue box.
This adds a layer of security by making sure that the app is authentic and has not been altered. This is especially useful for protecting against malware and complying with Google Play Policies.

The main feature “App Access Risk”  is currently in beta. Helps increase user privacy by identifying other apps. that screen or control equipment and Alert users of potential risks.
This feature is optional. However, it is expected to be adopted by more developers who value app security. Some apps already use this functionality.
